This week and always, we celebrate our social workers: Todd Bothwell, Kasie Cooper, Amanda Dolan, Bianca Hernandez, Melody Lake, and Jacqui Wilson.
School social workers bring unique knowledge and skills to our schools. They are trained mental health professionals who assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators, as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy.

Due to the blowing snow, we have some roads that are impassable and not safe for our kids or busses. Harrison Community Schools will be closed today, Monday, February 17th.

We would like to invite members of the community, students, NHS members, and members of administration to Harrison Community School's Wellness and School Based Health Clinic meeting.

Given the snowfall that has already occurred, and looking at what is projected, Harrison Community Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 13.

Good morning,
We have just completed one of our required lockdown drills on all campuses. We appreciate the participation of law enforcement from across the region in this important work, especially in scheduling and coordinating their schedules. Kudos to Deputy Chinavare for his organization of the same.
Please take time this evening to touch base with your child around the drill. Especially with younger children, the drills may cause stress or anxiety. If there are questions we can help you with, please reach out to your building principal or myself.

Restorative practices have been part of alternative discipline in schools for at least the last 8-9 years, when Governor Snyder signed PA 361 in 2016. While many of our staff have been trained over time in various places, we committed in our Strategic Plan to a day of training for all staff this school year.
Last Friday, we were able to bring together playground aides, interventists, teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, social workers, bus drivers, office staff, behavior specialists, and administrators across four sites. Trainers included Sandy Hargraves, Nick Winters, Stacey VanAntwerp, and Judy Walton, all who have been trained as trainers. Co-trainers included Andrea Andera, Sarah Morris, Jennifer Thrush, Amanda Dolan, and Melody Lake.
Topics included community building, fair practices, affective statements, and use of restorative circles.

Reminder: no school for students on Friday, February 7 and Monday, February 10.

During the afternoon today, our teachers met in either grade level or content area teams. This block of time together is crucial for professional growth and to continue to enhance high-quality teaching and learning for all. We appreciate your support, as we know half days may require additional childcare for many families.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29th, is a half day of school. Early Childhood (GSRP) Preschool will be released at 11:20 a.m. Larson students will be released at 11:40 a.m. Middle School, High School and Hive students will be released at 11:30 a.m. If your students ride the bus home from school, please plan on them arriving approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes earlier then they are normally dropped off on a regular school day. Afternoon CTE is still in session and transportation will be provided to and from the High School but will need transportation home.

A big Hornet welcome to our new School Resource Officer, Deputy Jim Chinavare. As you see Deputy Chinavare in and around our schools, feel free to say hello and introduce yourself.

In looking at forecasted wind chill temps for tomorrow morning, we do not believe it will be safe at bus stops, even with a two-hour delay. We will be closed on Wednesday, January 22.

We have been paying very close to the weather forecast for tomorrow. After looking at a variety of forecasts, the weather will be too cold to safely allow children to wait at our bus stops. Therefore, Harrison Community Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21.
